It’s designed to blend in with its surroundings and blur the line between inside and outside.
This elegant image can bring peace and relaxation to your office, study, reading room or gathering area.
View of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater nuzzled in the forest of Bear Run
Fallingwater is a masterpiece of architecture that celebrates the beauty and power of nature. It is built on a waterfall that flows through the forest of Bear Run, creating a dynamic and harmonious relationship between the house and the site. The waterfall is not only a source of visual and auditory delight, but also a symbol of nature’s endless energy and grace.
The house is designed to blend in with its surroundings and blur the line between inside and outside. Wright used local materials, such as Pottsville sandstone and reinforced concrete, to create a naturalistic palette that complements the landscape. He also incorporated organic forms, such as curves and cantilevers, to create a sense of fluidity and movement. The house and the site together form the very image of man’s desire to be at one with nature, equal and wedded to nature.
Wright’s philosophy of organic architecture was to design in harmony with humanity and the environment. He wanted to integrate human-made structures into the natural world, rather than impose them on it. He was inspired by the Kaufmann family’s love of Bear Run’s waterfalls, and wanted them to live with the waterfall, rather than just look at it. He achieved this by placing the house over the waterfall, making it an integral part of the living experience. Wright described Fallingwater as “one of the great blessings to be experienced here on earth”.
